Ella to Demodara Hike | Pekoe Trail – Stage 16

Experience one of Ella’s most scenic walking routes during an organised journey along The Pekoe Trail Stage 16. Beginning at Ella Railway Station, the trail passes through the Ella Forest Reserve before reaching the world-famous Nine Arches Bridge.

Participants will continue through village roads, tea-country landscapes and the Demodara Tea Estate while enjoying views of the surrounding valleys and railway scenery. The journey concludes at Demodara Railway Station, where visitors can discover the remarkable Demodara Loop—an innovative railway design where the track spirals beneath itself before emerging from a tunnel. The official Stage 16 trail covers approximately 9.5 kilometres and is normally completed in around three hours. Although the official trail is rated easy, the organised excursion listing advises participants to have a moderate level of fitness and prepare for conditions such as mist, cold weather and leeches.

Journey Route: Colombo Fort > Nugegoda > Kottawa > Homagama > Ingiriya > Ratnapuraya > Pelmadulla > Balangoda > Belihuloya > Haputale > Bandarawela > Ella and returned same route. (Participants also can join from this route & No additional drops beyond the route)
